Intake and diagnosis with Physiotherapy

A physiotherapeutic treatment takes about 25 minutes. During the first appointment your physiotherapist will record all your complaints. Then follows a bodily examination. After that a treatment plan is made in accordance with the patient’s wishes. The physiotherapist will contact doctors or other medical specialists during treatment if needed (if there is not enough medical information available or if complications arise, for example). The number of treatment episodes depends on the affliction and its severity.

Beside the treatment of afflictions, the physiotherapist also pays attention to preventing that the patient will be afflicted with the same problem later. This can be done through exercises that the patient can do at home or through changes which lessen situations which could lead to the re-emergence of the affliction during daily life, work and sport. Physiotherapy is aimed at the prevention, curing and/or lessening complaints and afflictions of the motoric apparatus.

Treatment

The core element of a physiotherapy treatment is that the patient themselves works at their recovery. Usually, patients receive a treatment programme and other information which explains the function of the various exercises.

During treatment, a physiotherapist can make use of massage therapy, electrotherapy, movement therapy (or practice therapy), focused informing and mental support. As soon as the affliction allows it, the treatment becomes active – actively working towards recovery, actively exercising and actively adjusting the work- and home situation based on the affliction.

Every patient is different. That’s why we examine every patient individually to determine which treatment method will be best.

The most often used treatment methods are:

  • Practice therapy
  • Massages
  • Physical therapy
  • Dry needling

General physiotherapy information

Physiotherapy is an often-used type of therapy in the contemporary paramedical world, but what does it entail and when do we go the physiotherapist?

Nearly everybody experiences pain, stiffness or a decreased functioning to some degree in a body part during their lifetime. In many cases the body remedies this issue in a few days or weeks and that body part can function on the level you were used to again. When the pain or other problem remains and the body cannot avert it by itself, it may be needed to give your body a push in the right direction. Physiotherapy can give this push and make sure that your body will function at the optimal level once again.

The physiotherapist can treat many issues related to the motoric apparatus. Physiotherapy is a type of treatment which focuses on the motoric functionality of the human body. The human body comprises the whole of the skeleton, joints, muscles and the nervous system. We depend on these systems for all our everyday activities. Usually, moving freely is something you take for granted. Only when you get an issue with your motoric system do you realise that really, it isn’t such a natural thing at all. When the body stops complying with your instructions, physiotherapy is there to help. We can not only treat your afflictions, but also help you prevent other (worse) issues.

Throughout the years many studies have been done about physiotherapeutic treatment, especially the diagnosing of afflictions and the devising of the best way to subsequently treat this affliction. Internationally, the level of education of Dutch physiotherapists is seen as particularly high. With this information you can count on it that your physiotherapist will present to you the best treatment out of those available.

In the physiotherapeutic assistance process six phases can be observed:

  • Registration patient after reference by doctor or direct entry (since 2005 you can also be treated by us without reference by your doctor)
  • Physiotherapeutic anamnesis and examination
  • The formulation of a conclusion and deciding whether or not to go through with threatment (a consultation)
  • Treatment
  • Evaluation
  • Conclusion of the treatment
